A sanctum is a private place from which most people are excluded. It will provide tranquility and suitable for those who are looking for a private place to run away from the hectic city life.

Our main site is located at Sungai Tua Recreational Park in Batu Caves, Selangor. Nur Laman Bestari is where we spent 3 days and 2 nights at and it was such a great experience with my studio mates. I was exposed to the natural environment with wildlife, surrounded by greeneries, refreshing stream water and peaceful environment as we were located far away from busy road and buildings.

Site analysis boards and site model
For site analysis, we were separated into small groups. My group was in charge of finding the type of trees for the selected site and their specifications as in the height, foliage, diameter of the trunk, value of preservation and characteristic. It was not an easy task since we were not able to recognize some of the trees and it took us a long time to find the specific scientific name for the trees with the help of internet and application on our gadgets.

Next is an individual project where students have to compose presentation drawings on 4 boards and a scale model. For me, the most challenging part time management. I have to make sure I was able to finish it on time and implement all of the elements needed in the boards. Compared to last semester, I can say that I've improved in term of composition, time management, line weight and shadow and I got to learn a lot from my studio mates by asking for their opinions and shared some knowledge with them during the completion period.

Individual sanctum model
There are a lot more skills that I have to learn in order to become successful. All of the comments from the panels had opened my eyes about the importance of exploring new things in architecture and it is very important to always share your knowledge with your friends and help each other. I'm looking forward to learning new, interesting knowledge in the following years with the help of my lecturers and studio mates.

'Flat Pack Bag Pack' is the title for project 2. I was so thrilled to start this project as it was something that I have never tried before. As exciting as it sounds, this project is about giving the homeless or catastrophe victim a portable shelter and acts as a survival tool to survive harsh environments in the street of Georgetown.

The shelter

We were divided into small groups of 5 and I'm so glad that all of my teammates cooperated wholeheartedly in this project. There were a few criteria needed to be followed in designing the shelter such as easy to fold and retract, lightweight yet strong and stable, it should occupy for both day and night and materials used must be from recycling materials.

Our group during the presentation

New knowledge that I gained from this project is the study of anthropometrics, design consideration based on the homeless circumstances and their needs in daily life regarding the shelter. I was super satisfied with our work, from the design to the boards completed by us. Developing new ideas was not an easy task especially when working in a group and we managed to get an agreement in term of design and everything. I am also very delighted and grateful that we won first place on the day of the presentation.

In semester two, we started off our project with project 1 named The Old Charm of Georgetown. It is a task where the students were asked to do a series of freehand sketches. It was actually a good opportunity for the students especially those who were not born in Penang or stay here to explore more unique heritage buildings in town and being exposed to some architectural elements that they never experienced before.

My selection of heritage building is St. George's Girls' School. It is an all-girls school located at Macalister Road, Georgetown. The main reason for choosing this building is because I'm attracted to the emphasis of English architecture culture and elements towards the building itself, parallel to its use as a church back in the past.

From this project, I was exposed to new things such as the principle of design, creative thinking and I also improved myself in term of composition, freehand drawing and coloring as well. The comments given by all of the lecturers helped me a lot in realizing my mistakes and learning from them. It was a great opportunity to learn more about real life architecture with different stories and background.

The last project is the highlight of them all. The folly is a project which students have to design a folly for public usage including 1 unisex public toilet and 1 toilet for the disabled.

I tried my best to decorate and put as much information as I can in the presentation boards. For the model, it took me a shorter time to complete it compared to the presentation boards.

By doing this project, I learn how to manage and plan my time properly so that I would not be in rush to finish up everything. Other than that, I noticed my weaknesses and I will try to overcome it and do better in the upcoming project. This project is the most challenging yet I learned a lot of lessons from it and I am ready to improve myself to become a better student.

Project 4A is a group assignment where everybody gets involved in the process of completing the project. We were given a site located at Tasik Aman and Tasik Harapan. Based on the site given, we had to carry out site analysis and transferred the information into presentation boards and model.

In this project, I was in charge of a residential area near Tasik Harapan. I had to measure the tree diameters, determined the type of trees around the residential area, measured the temperature from time to time and aware of the circulation around that place. The information collected then will be given to the group leader and we analyzed the information collected by each group member.

There are a lot of new things that I learned throughout the entire process and one of them is I have to be sensitive with the surrounding in term of climate, vegetation, circulation and many more.

Project 3B requires students to convert the 3D sculpture into technical drawings which consist of elevations and isometric.

The most challenging part of this assignment is the isometric drawing. I was a first-timer when I had to draw it and for me, it was quite complicated at the beginning of the drawing process but it gets better as I did a lot of practices and learn from my mistakes.

For this assignment students are required to create a 3D sculpture that represents ourselves. In this task I chose triangle as the main geometrical shape of my sculpture. It is because a triangle consists of the  combinations of flat, smooth surface and sharp, edgy surface. For me it represents myself as a patient person yet I have my own limits.

This project taught me to interpret information about myself into something that symbolises me as a person. I also can be more creative with different shapes and dimensions together with knowing the purpose of each action that I took in a form of object based on the sculpture.

As the assignment goes on, it is becoming more challenging and interesting at the same time. For this project, students are required to take a photo of exterior facade view of traditional Malay house which is ‘Surau HBP’ in the main campus and transform it into drawings using different medium.

As I was getting comfortable with assignments which require me to complete only one task at a time, this time I learned to manage my time properly in order to finish it on time. For the first few attempts of using all of the medium, I found it slightly stressful to do the stippling part. I had so much fun experimenting using different shades of colour and I prefer to use marker and watercolour out of the other medium.

Thanks to Dr. Hazril, my studio master for this project for his comments and suggestions that helped me a lot in improving the way I paint and deliver my drawings. Instead of feeling down for not fulfilling the requirements needed, I am grateful that I get the chance to learn new things through out the entire process of completing this assignment.

Project 1B is still the same concept as project 1A but the difference is the way I deliver my message. In this project, I was required to complete a write-up by using architectural style lettering based on inline paragraph format.

This is something new to me that I need to learn to complete this task. I have never tried this type of lettering before and it was challenging to me initially since the lettering form is contra with my own hand-writing. This is my third and final attempt I did before the submission.

It took patient to learn new things and this, for me is interesting and I enjoyed learning and practicing the new architectural lettering.

Me, myself and I is a project based on how I present myself in term of creativity where I needed to create a work of art which will represent myself as a whole. I am required to do a write-up using various type of fonts, size and graphically composed to portray the characteristics that I have in myself.

From my experience from doing this task, it seemed difficult and complicated to figure it out at first but once I got the hang of it and knew how to decorate it the way I wanted it to be, it became easier.

Other than that, the main reason I chose Mona Lisa as the face of this project is that how iconic she is that people of every generation would recognize her even if it takes hundreds of years and that is what I want in life, I want to do something that can make people remember me maybe not by my face but by my name.

Lastly, I learned how to introduce myself in writing form and graphically composed other than communicating through a simple but informative type of write up.
